Hunter Uncorked at Balmoral Esplanade: October 7 The Hunter Valley is hosting the fourth Hunter Valley Uncorked event at Balmoral. Teams will vie for the title of Hunter Valley Uncorked 2010 Champions in boules, wine spitting and golf. Hunter Valley Semillon and Seafood Festival: October 8 – 10 Be the first to taste new semillon wines and exotic seafood dishes for this season. The event will also include live music, local restaurant specialties, over 150 semillons and different master-classes featuring Alvin Quah from Masterchef, hosting three unique seafood cooking demonstrations. World Chef Showcase: October 8 – 10 Sydney’s best chefs as well as top chefs from around the world come together for a weekend of cooking demonstrations and talks. The 2010 themes include Middle Eastern/Turkish, Asian, Contemporary Creative and kitchen-garden/artisan cooking. Sydney chefs will include Peter Gilmore, Tetsuya Wakuda, Kylie Kwong, Luke Nguyen and Sean Connolly. Night Noodle Markets in Hyde Park: October 11 – 22 Hyde Park comes alive after dark with this authentic Asian hawker market, which is part of the Crave Sydney International Food Festival. It will feature live Asian-inspired entertainment and more than three dozen food stalls. Marcus Wareing at Est. Restaurant: October 12 – 13 As part of this year’s Crave Sydney International Food Festival, Marcus Wareing will be cooking alongside Chef Peter Doyle at Est. Restaurant. Wareing is chef patron of the two Michelin starred The Berkeley, where his classical French training and use of British seasonal ingredients make him one of Britain’s best culinary talents. Sydney Food & Wine Fair: October 30 This year will celebrate '20 years of giving' with the event being the flagship fundraiser for the AIDS Trust of Australia. Fort Denison Australian Cheese and Wine Experience: August 7 - November 27 The Australian Cheese and Wine Experience is a 2-hour Saturday course on Sydney's historic Fort Denison. From $170 per person, the course showcases the best of Australia's cheese making talents along side some great Australian wines. Hosted by McIntosh and Bowman cheesemongers, the class has an emphasis on farmhouse cheese and cheese produced on small scales by farmers who practice sustainable and traditional cheese making techniques. The Wine Label Show: to December 11 The Wyndam Estate, Branxton is hosting an exhibition into a history of Australian wine. It features a showing of wine labels produced for Australian Table Wines from the late 1940s through to the contemporary era. The exhibition will focus on the importance of the intent and meaning of design in the making, branding and identification of Australian wines. | |  | | News Sheraton on the Park unveils new Conservatory Bar and Terrace The Conservatory Bar at the Sheraton on the Park has received a $250,000 refurbishment by acclaimed international designer Joseph Pang. It has a range of features, from the communal table "The Great," located in the centre of the room and made from recycled iron timber; "The Concaves," the intimate booths; and the iconic outdoor terrace with views of Hyde Park, which will feature live piano entertainment with Gregg Arthur every Thursday and Friday night. The choice of beverage is extensive and the bar also offers a tapas menu with plates such as crisp whitebait with garlic aioli and fetta cheese with watermelon. The bar is open from 5pm until late Sunday to Wednesday and from 2.30pm until late Thursday to Sunday. New Shanghai Charlestown to Open Dumpling house New Shanghai has announced their Charlestown restaurant will be coming soon. It will offer diners their popular dumplings and Shanghai-style cuisine from owner John Chen, as well as their famous live dumpling making theatre. The decor will feature cobblestone floors, hanging red lanterns, leave-twined walls and patterned umbrellas will a view of Lake Macquarie harbour. Karl Beil to join Sheraton on the Park as Executive Pastry Chef Karl Beil has been appointed the position of Executive Pastry Chef at Sheraton on the Park, where he will lead a team of eight pastry chefs. Karl will oversee the Botanica Brasserie, the Conservatory Bar and Terrace, and the Gallery Tea Lounge. Austrian Karl Beil received his Master of Confectioners in 1987 and has gone on to gain experience in Singapore, Munich, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Sydney. | | Events Thai Food and Cultural Festival 2010: September 19 The Royal Thai Embassy will host this festival which includes fruit and vegetable carving demonstrations, Thai food tastings and entertainment with classical Thai dance and boxing. Murrumbateman Moving Feast: October 2 – 3 Local wine and food are matched at this weekend festival. There will be public tastings and a chance to meet and chat with the winemakers. Country Guesthouse Schonegg will serve up award-winning chocolates from chocolatier Robyn Rowe who will be on site for a demonstration. Oktoberfest 2010: October 29 – 31 The Harmonie Club Canberra presents this year’s Oktoberfest at Exhibition Park. German food and beer will be on hand as well as live bands. There will be competitions and dances, as well as entertainment for the kids. Lindeman's Open Garden: September 11 – October 12 TV chef Dominique Rizzo will hold cooking demonstrations at the Lindeman's Open Garden, with recipes and tips on what to grow in spring. Toast to the Coast: October 30 – 31 The annual Toast to the Coast festival in Geelong celebrates their cool climate wines and regional produce. Pyrenees Escapade: October 31 Experience 20 exhibitors from the Pyrenees winemaking region. Red, White and Sparkling will be on show along with a European Masterclass. Thai Culture and Food Festival: October 3 Thailand will come to life in Brisbane with the festival that will feature twelve food stalls, three Thai dessert and drink stalls, a Singha beer garden and live cultural shows on stage.
